Dead by Daylight Developer Explains Chucky Removal and Future Horror License Returns

The studio behind the asymmetrical horror hit Dead by Daylight has addressed fan confusion and disappointment surrounding the impending removal of Chucky from digital stores, clarifying that external licensing constraints rather than developer preference dictate these departures. Behaviour Interactive confirmed last week that the Chucky Chapter will become unavailable for purchase on November 24, 2026, marking the latest high-profile horror icon to exit the game following the departures of Pinhead last year and Michael Myers just months prior.
While the roster reductions have concerned players who value the game’s diverse lineup of Killers and Survivors, Behaviour emphasized that retaining intellectual property indefinitely remains the studio’s primary objective. In a statement addressing the licensing shifts, representatives explained that despite the team’s best efforts, maintaining perpetual agreements is not always feasible for live-service titles. The studio noted that when franchises must leave, it is simply because retaining them was no longer possible.
Despite the upcoming sales cutoff, players who purchase the possessed killer doll alongside his perks and associated cosmetics prior to November 24, 2026, retain full ownership and the ongoing freedom to use the content in matches indefinitely. Existing owners will experience no loss of purchased assets, though the character may appear less frequently in public lobbies over time as new players lose direct purchase access.
Behaviour positioned the game as the enduring House of Horror, assuring the community that departed franchises such as Child’s Play, Halloween, and Hellraiser maintain an open invitation to return to the Fog. Precedents for such a comeback exist within the game’s history, most notably when the Stranger Things franchise and its playable Demogorgon were removed from stores in November 2021 before making a triumphant return in November 2023.
As the studio navigates these licensing transitions, the roster continues to evolve with fresh additions. Recent updates include the introduction of Jason from Friday the 13th in June, alongside upcoming plans to integrate Art the Clown from the Terrifier franchise starting next month, following announcements made during the game’s 10th Anniversary Broadcast over the summer.
