Brian White Reaches 100 MLS Goals as Vancouver Whitecaps Rout San Diego

VANCOUVER, British Columbia — Brian White reached a major career milestone with his 100th MLS goal, powering the Vancouver Whitecaps to a 4-1 victory over San Diego on Wednesday night and extending their lead atop the Western Conference.
With the win, Vancouver improved its record to 17-8-7, stretching its advantage in the conference to four points over second-place Dallas following Dallas’s earlier loss to Columbus. Meanwhile, San Diego dropped to 8-13-11 and was officially eliminated from playoff contention, extending its winless drought to 10 games with five losses and five draws.
The Whitecaps broke open the scoring in the 24th minute when Aleksa Cvetković redirected a pass across the goal from Mathias Laborda. Making just his fourth start since arriving in August, Cvetković notched his first MLS goal. White then doubled the advantage in the 41st minute, heading home a curling pass from Oliver Larraz to record his 18th league goal of the season.
The strike marked White’s 100th regular-season goal in MLS play, making the 30-year-old the 17th player in league history to reach the century mark. Since joining Vancouver in 2021, White has accumulated 98 goals across all competitions for the club.
Vancouver continued to press in the second half. Ryan Gauld found the back of the net with a diving header in the 66th minute, marking the Whitecaps’ 67th goal of the campaign—the most the franchise has ever scored in a single MLS regular season. Gauld also contributed an assist during the match. Bruno Caicedo extended the lead to 4-0 in the 76th minute, beating goalkeeper Pablo Sisniega cleanly on a two-on-one breakaway.
San Diego avoided a shutout in the 83rd minute when Onni Valakari connected on a header to put the visitors on the board.
Looking ahead, San Diego travels to face St. Louis on Saturday, while Vancouver returns home to host Seattle on Sunday.
