Philadelphia 767 Guards VJ Edgecombe Ruled Out Against Detroit Pistons with Abdominal Contusion

Philadelphia guard VJ Edgecombe has been officially ruled out for Sunday evening’s game against the Detroit Pistons due to an abdominal contusion. Head coach Nick Nurse confirmed prior to tip-off that the second-year player was dealing with significant soreness resulting from a blow to his midsection during Saturday’s contest.
The injury occurred early in Saturday night’s victory over the Milwaukee Bucks when Edgecombe took a direct shot to the torso while attempting to contest a layup. Despite the impact, he remained in the game briefly, converting a pair of three-point shots before heading to the locker room. He later emerged to ride a stationary bike on the sideline before checking back into the rotation.
Edgecombe put together a productive performance before the final whistle, finishing with 17 points, 13 rebounds, and five successful three-pointers. He also contributed key plays down the stretch to help secure the win, including a crucial offensive rebound that set up a three-pointer by Jaylen Brown, followed by a defensive deflection that led to another triple by Kentavious Caldwell-Pope.
His absence adds to an already depleted roster for Philadelphia as the early portion of the 2026-27 season brings a wave of physical setbacks. Joel Embiid remains sidelined for plantar fasciitis management, though he expressed a desire to play following Saturday’s game. Jabari Walker is also unavailable due to knee soreness, while Dominick Barlow and Tacko Fall continue to recover from back and quad injuries, respectively. Additionally, both Dean Wade and Caldwell-Pope enter the contest dealing with minor bumps and bruises.
On a more positive note for the rotation, LeBron James is slated to return to the lineup after sitting out the front end of the team’s back-to-back schedule. The Philadelphia squad and the Detroit Pistons are scheduled to tip off at Xfinity Mobile Arena.
