United Airlines Flight from Honolulu to Los Angeles Encounters Severe Turbulence, Injuring Four Crew Members

Four flight attendants were injured on Wednesday night aboard a United Airlines flight traveling from Hawaii to Los Angeles after the aircraft encountered severe turbulence during its descent. United Airlines Flight 1157 departed from Daniel K. Inouye International Airport in Honolulu at approximately 1 p.m. on Wednesday and ultimately landed safely at its destination around 9 p.m., according to flight-tracking data provided by FlightAware.
Flight-tracking records indicate that during the final 20 minutes of the journey, the Boeing 777 aircraft experienced a sharp altitude loss, dropping roughly 3,675 feet within a single minute. A statement issued by United Airlines confirmed that four flight attendants were evaluated by medical personnel upon arrival. One of the injured crew members required hospitalization for further medical treatment. The airline reported that no passengers among the 190 travelers on board sustained injuries. A total of 10 crew members were operating the flight.
Passengers on board recounted the sudden and alarming nature of the mid-air drop. San Diego resident Marly Wadlington described the incident to local reporters, stating she was watching a movie when the aircraft abruptly fell. She noted that the plane felt like it dropped a significant distance, shaking violently as passengers began yelling and experiencing widespread fear. Another passenger, Coral Pena, recalled hearing a distinct noise during the event, noting that the cabin immediately began falling.
Following the safe landing in Los Angeles, the aircraft remained stationary on the tarmac for at least 30 minutes. During this time, the injured flight attendants remained on board the plane to receive initial attention before medical personnel transported those requiring further care.
