The View Refutes Rumors of Joy Behar Exit as Veteran Host Prepares Return

The long-running daytime talk show “The View” has officially dismissed reports suggesting that veteran co-host Joy Behar is being phased out of the program. A representative for the show confirmed that there is “no truth” to rumors alleging the 84-year-old comedian was on the verge of being fired or replaced as part of a broader effort to alter the show’s tone.
Speculation regarding Behar’s future began to circulate after she missed several weeks of broadcasts following an injury. Unverified reports suggested that producers were considering a “panel shake-up” to make the program less contentious and more appealing to a wider demographic. However, officials for the show have characterized these claims as entirely false, maintaining that Behar remains a central fixture of the production.
Behar, who is an original member of the panel and has been with the show since its debut alongside Barbara Walters in 1997, has been sidelined since late September. The cause of her absence was a dislocated shoulder suffered in late October, an injury that required several weeks of recovery. During her time away, her colleagues frequently addressed her absence on air to reassure viewers of her eventual return.
On October 1, co-host Sunny Hostin told the audience that Behar was recovering and would be back soon. Later, during an October 7 episode celebrating Whoopi Goldberg’s birthday, Goldberg shared a message from Behar directly. In the message, Behar joked about the length of her recovery, noting that while she might have bounced back quickly at 21, her current age made the recuperation process longer. She promised then to return and provide the “gory details” of her medical incident.

Confirmation of her imminent return came Monday during an episode of the “Behind the Table” podcast. Executive producer Brian Teta announced that Behar’s recovery has progressed sufficiently for her to rejoin the panel. Teta stated that her first appearance back at the table is scheduled for Tuesday, marking her first live broadcast since September 30.
Behar holds the record as the longest-running female host of an American television program. Her tenure has been defined by her sharp-tongued comedic style and her outspoken political views, particularly her frequent and vocal criticism of Donald Trump. Despite the recent rumors of a shift in the show’s direction, Behar recently told New York Magazine that she would still welcome Trump back to “The View” table to face questions directly, noting he had appeared on the program 18 times prior to his first term in office.

This is not the first time a minor injury has kept Behar away from the show. Last year, she missed several days after breaking her toe, an injury she later explained occurred when she accidentally dropped an iPad on her foot. Her co-hosts have expressed consistent support during her most recent medical leave, with Goldberg remarking last week that the table “is not the same” without her presence.
