Shane Gillis and Danny McBride Face Off in Absurdist Weather-Themed Kalshi Commercial

Comedians Shane Gillis and Danny McBride have teamed up for a new comedic commercial campaign promoting the prediction market platform Kalshi. The four-minute spot, written by McBride, features Gillis as a struggling weatherman who goes to extreme lengths to out-forecast his professional rival.

In the ad, Gillis plays a meteorologist who consistently misses the mark with his forecasts. Desperate for accuracy, Gillis discovers that his competitor, played by McBride, relies on a mysterious oracle to secure precise weather data. The oracle is portrayed by Deep Roy, known for his role as the lead Oompa Loompa in Johnny Depp’s adaptation of “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” and a previous guest appearance on McBride’s television series “Eastbound & Down.”

The storyline escalates when Roy appears in a red and white robe alongside a pony to deliver a forecast of 68 degrees, cloudy skies, and thunderstorms. Following this, Gillis dons a pantyhose mask, breaks into McBride’s home—where McBride is serving meatloaf and rosemary potatoes to the oracle—and ultimately kidnaps Roy in an effort to harness the prophecies for himself. However, Gillis’s scheme unravels when he discovers that the oracle’s predictive powers stem simply from using Kalshi.

The commercial was directed by Randy Krallman, whose previous directing credits include the original E*TRADE talking baby commercials. An abridged version of the four-minute spot is scheduled to air during Game 1 of the World Series matchup between the Tampa Bay Rays and the Milwaukee Brewers.

McBride noted that his involvement with the brand stemmed from personal experience with prediction contracts. In a statement regarding the campaign, McBride remarked that he had previously made questionable trades on local weather, Costco hot dog prices, and cricket over the past year. He added that the project offered a chance to collaborate with Gillis and reunite with Roy.

The partnership highlights a broader trend of prediction markets and gambling platforms leveraging high-profile entertainment talent for marketing campaigns. Earlier this summer, Timothée Chalamet entered into a multi-year creative partnership with Kalshi, appearing in a prominent advertising campaign. Meanwhile, competing platform Polymarket released an ad featuring LeBron James, Spike Lee, and Emily Ratajkowski, and sports-gambling application Betr drew attention for an ad reuniting “Entourage” stars Jeremy Piven and Adrian Grenier.

Keaton Inglis, Kalshi’s head of growth, noted that the creative team allowed the actors freedom to develop their characters rather than functioning as traditional spokespeople. Inglis stated that the collaboration focused on bringing unique humor and personality to forecasting and predicting with Kalshi markets.
