RB Leipzig manager Martin Demichelis has called for an immediate reversal in form as his squad prepares to host SV Elversberg in the Bundesliga this Saturday. The upcoming fixture at the Red Bull Arena carries heightened significance following a difficult week that saw the club suffer consecutive heavy defeats across domestic and European competition.
Leipzig’s recent struggles began with a 1:6 defeat in Munich, followed quickly by a 1:4 loss away to Real Madrid in the Champions League on Wednesday. The European fixture marked the team’s fifth consecutive away defeat and placed renewed scrutiny on the 45-year-old Argentine coach. Despite the mounting pressure, Demichelis maintained a resolute stance ahead of Saturday’s 15.30 kickoff, emphasizing that the identity of the opponent does not alter the team’s objective.
It is irrelevant who comes here; it is a Bundesliga match and we must reach our objectives, Demichelis stated ahead of the weekend fixture. Expressing full respect for their upcoming visitors, he added that preparing for Elversberg requires the same mindset as preparing for powerhouse opponents like Bayern München. Ultimately, the team must secure all three points.
Demichelis noted that he intends to remain positive and focused on his daily responsibilities while looking to capitalize on home advantage to break the downward slide. However, squad selection remains complicated by fitness concerns, with forward Christopher Nkunku listed as doubtful due to ongoing adductor trouble.
Looking ahead to the tactical challenge posed by the visitors, Demichelis warned that Elversberg is a highly intense opponent that has already caused trouble for several established Bundesliga clubs this season. To counter their energy and manage a demanding fixture schedule as a Champions League participant, the Leipzig manager indicated that he plans to rotate his lineup.
The team needs fresh legs and fresh energy to navigate this demanding stretch of the season, Demichelis said as preparations concluded ahead of the Saturday afternoon clash.
