Meghan Markle Addresses Child Pornography Allegations Against Father, Citing 2018 Police Warning

Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, has broken her silence regarding explosive allegations involving her estranged father, Thomas Markle, stating she is “deeply distressed” by reports that child sexual abuse material was found at his residence. The response comes after her half-brother, Thomas Markle Jr., publicly claimed to have discovered thousands of illicit images and videos while caring for their father in the Philippines.

In a statement released Friday, the 45-year-old Duchess connected the recent developments to her decision to end contact with her father years ago. She revealed that her estrangement was not merely a result of personal friction, but was informed by high-level security warnings she received prior to her 2018 marriage to Prince Harry.

“I am deeply distressed at the news that has come to light in the last 24 hours, and my thoughts are with any children who may have been harmed,” the Duchess stated. She further clarified that the safety of her children, Archie and Lilibet, was the primary driver for her choice to maintain a significant distance from her father, despite years of public scrutiny and media speculation regarding the rift.

According to the Duchess, the situation first became a matter of official concern in 2018. At that time, a letter containing “troubling and disturbing allegations” was sent to the Metropolitan Police and the Royalty and Specialist Protection unit. That communication was subsequently shared with her, and she was reportedly given assurances that the matter was under investigation. The Duchess noted that while media narratives often distorted the reasons for her family distance, the protection of her children remained her sole motivation for denying Thomas Markle contact.

The current allegations were brought to light by Thomas Markle Jr., who told reporters that he found four boxes containing “hundreds, if not thousands” of child pornographic images at the family home. He described a desktop computer filled with thumbnails of child abuse and alleged that he found videos on his father’s phone, including a 15-minute recording featuring minors under the age of 11.

Thomas Jr. confirmed he has filed an affidavit with the FBI. Federal authorities have reportedly acknowledged receipt of the document and are expected to launch their own investigation into the claims. Thomas Jr., who had been his father’s primary caregiver following a series of health crises—including a stroke, blood clots, and a leg amputation in 2025—stated he would no longer speak to the 82-year-old patriarch unless required to testify in court.

From his home in the Philippines, Thomas Markle has vehemently denied the accusations, expressing that he was “shocked” and “hurt” by the claims made by his son. He described the allegations as the worst thing anyone could be accused of and insisted he is innocent. Samantha Markle, the Duchess’s half-sister, has also sided with her father, dismissing the allegations as having “no merit” and accusing Thomas Jr. of attempting to destroy their father’s reputation.

As the investigation moves toward federal authorities, the Duchess of Sussex maintained her focus on the potential victims. “Although the breadth of what has now been uncovered is more sickening than one could ever imagine, my sincerest hope is that justice will be fully served and that the priority remains the safety and protection of innocent children,” she said.
