Kristen Bell Reveals Daughter ‘Moles’ and the ‘Brutal’ Challenges of Marriage to Dax Shepard

Actress Kristen Bell has revealed the unconventional way she keeps tabs on her husband, Dax Shepard, when she is away from home: she uses their daughters as undercover informants. During a recent late-night television appearance, the 46-year-old actress joked about her “moles on the ground” who provide real-time updates on Shepard’s behavior while she is out of town.

Bell explained that her daughters, 13-year-old Lincoln and 11-year-old Delta, frequently document their father’s activities when the trio is left to their own devices. The actress noted that she often receives immediate notifications on her phone for fast food deliveries, including McDonald’s and Taco Bell, as soon as she leaves the house. However, the surveillance goes beyond mere delivery alerts.

According to Bell, her eldest daughter, Lincoln, provides what she calls “in-house paparazzi photos” that offer a play-by-play of the household’s activities. In one instance, Bell received a photograph of Shepard in the cereal cupboard, which she described as him “going hogwild” during the girls’ supposed bedtime. Bell praised her daughter’s investigative skills, asserting, “I get all the details.”

While the stories of “spy” tactics are shared with a sense of humor, Bell has recently been candid about the more difficult aspects of her personal life. In a separate sit-down interview, the Emmy nominee admitted that she cries on a weekly basis while navigating what she described as the “brutal” challenges of both marriage and parenting. She emphasized that despite her public profile, her domestic life is not without its significant hardships.

Bell stated that she is intentionally vocal about her family’s struggles to ensure other parents do not feel alone. She argued that for the “good of the people,” public figures should be willing to share their “dirty stories” and hardships rather than presenting a curated, perfect image. However, she noted a careful balance, stating that her primary responsibility remains the protection of her two children.

The actress also discussed how her role as a mother has shifted her professional priorities. Bell revealed that she actively avoids projects that would keep her away from her children for extended periods. She noted that she would be willing to let her career and notoriety disappear if it meant being present for major milestones in her daughters’ lives.

The family has long been known for their unconventional approach to child-rearing. Since becoming a parent in 2013, Bell has faced public scrutiny for various parenting choices, including allowing her children to sample non-alcoholic beer and use certain curse words.

Shepard, 51, has corroborated this unique approach, explaining that he and Bell are purposefully raising daughters who are “unruly” and willing to talk back. He noted in a recent discussion that the goal is to raise children who are empowered to advocate for themselves, regardless of whether their parents believe they are right or wrong in a given moment.
