Minnesota Lawmaker Ilhan Omar Deletes Social Media Post Amid Federal Investigation

Minnesota Congresswoman Ilhan Omar has removed a social media post identifying her father, a digital deletion that intersects with an ongoing federal criminal investigation into her background and marital history.
Omar scrubbed a previous post featuring a Father’s Day message that referred to her father as Nur Said using the Somali word “aabo.” The deleted post highlighted a connection between her father’s name and that of her ex-husband, Ahmed Nur Said Elmi. Critics and federal investigators have previously raised questions regarding the marriage and family lineages, alleging that Omar’s ex-husband is related to her and that the 2009 union was arranged to secure a green card. Elmi ultimately never obtained a green card.
When previously questioned about the allegations surrounding her marriage, Omar responded, “Not to my knowledge.”
The removal of the social media post follows a search of Omar’s home last week by the Department of Justice as part of an active criminal probe. Federal law enforcement personnel spent hours at the residence before departing with 17 personal items, including her mobile phone. Attorneys representing the congresswoman subsequently demanded that the Department of Justice return the seized items.
Department of Justice spokesperson Emily Covington addressed the operation, stating that law enforcement partners and department attorneys complied fully with all court orders and legal obligations.
Following the search, Omar announced plans to relocate from her Washington, D.C., residence, citing safety concerns stemming from public disclosure of her address and ongoing security threats. She noted that the situation made it unfeasible to continue living at the property, particularly with children visiting periodically.
Addressing reporters on Friday before attending prayers, Omar maintained that her name has consistently been Ilhan Abdullahi Omar. She disputed assertions made by federal investigators identifying her name as Ilhan Nur Said Elmi, characterizing the Department of Justice’s actions and references as corrupt.
“The pedophile protection party’s president is laundering right-wing conspiracy theories through the most corrupt DOJ in American history,” Omar stated, pushing back against the investigators. “Whenever the news turns bad, this creep reaches for one name: mine. So let’s make it crystal clear. My name has always been Ilhan Omar.”
Emphasizing her innocence, Omar stated she remains confident in the facts surrounding her life and career. The ongoing federal investigation remains active.
