Houston Rockets Open NBA Season With Historic Five-Game Winning Streak

The Houston Rockets have claimed an early distinction across the NBA, capturing their fifth straight victory to open the campaign with a dominant 132-100 win over the Milwaukee Bucks on Wednesday night. The milestone makes Houston the first team in the league to reach five wins this season, marking the franchise’s best start since the 2014-15 season and only the sixth time in team history that the Rockets have opened a season with five consecutive victories.

Houston seized control of the contest during the second quarter, outscoring Milwaukee 34-14 to build a commanding 57-35 halftime advantage. The team maintained its offensive momentum throughout the second half, finishing the night shooting 54.8 percent from the field to secure its largest margin of victory this season.

The performance carried added significance given the roster absences. Alperen Sengun, who entered the matchup leading the team with 24.5 points per game, sat out due to lower back soreness. Steven Adams also missed the contest with a right calf strain, and Marcus Smart remained sidelined with a left forearm injury. Despite those vacancies, the Rockets displayed depth that underscores their early potential in the Western Conference.

Fred VanVleet paced the scoring effort with 24 points, delivering his strongest outing of the young season. Returning from a torn ACL that forced him to miss the entire previous campaign, the veteran guard scored 15 consecutive points during the third quarter to put the game out of reach. Amen Thompson added 23 points, while Kevin Durant contributed 18 points to bolster the offense alongside the team’s emerging talent.

Durant’s arrival has provided Houston with an established scoring option alongside its rotation pieces, blending veteran leadership with offensive versatility. While five games represent only a fraction of the regular season, the Rockets have matched a feat the franchise last achieved 12 years ago.

Houston will look to continue its momentum on Friday when the team travels to face the Dallas Mavericks in NBA Cup action.
