Hallescher FC Enters Three Way Battle for Regionalliga Nordost Promotion Spot

The battle for the top of the Regionalliga Nordost has officially shifted from a two-horse race into a high-stakes three-way contest. Following a dramatic series of results in the 14th matchday, Hallescher FC (HFC) has utilized a massive surge in momentum to pull within striking distance of long-time leaders Rot-Weiß Erfurt and Chemnitzer FC.
While Hallescher FC missed a direct opportunity to pull level on points with Erfurt at the close of the round, Robert Schröder’s squad secured a vital 2-2 draw against 1. FC Lok Leipzig. The result extended HFC’s unbeaten run to ten matches across all competitions. It marks a remarkable turnaround for a club that struggled significantly at the start of the campaign, managing only six points from its opening five fixtures. Since that period, Halle has claimed 23 out of a possible 27 league points.
The catalyst for this resurgence was an intense performance in the DFB-Pokal against Schalke 04. Although HFC did not win that match, the team’s effort against the higher-tier opponent reportedly served as an internal spark, revealing the squad’s competitive potential. While recent league performances have not always been aesthetically perfect, the team’s resilience was on full display during the comeback draw against Lok Leipzig.
The match against Lok Leipzig was an emotional milestone for veteran left-back Niklas Landgraf. Celebrating his 300th competitive appearance for HFC, the 30-year-old was shown a red card in the closing minutes of the game. However, the setback was softened just three minutes later when Fabrice Hartmann found a last-minute equalizer to rescue a point. Landgraf noted after the final whistle that the point could prove essential for maintaining the team’s morale, emphasizing how tight the standings have become at the top.
Rot-Weiß Erfurt currently occupies the top spot with 31 points after regaining the lead through a comeback victory in Greifswald. Following two matches without a win, Erfurt coach Fabian Gerber admitted he used the halftime break—when his team was trailing—to motivate his players with the news that Chemnitzer FC was losing their respective game. This psychological boost, combined with improved offensive play and a successful penalty, allowed the Thuringian side to return to the summit.
Chemnitzer FC, coached by Benjamin Duda, entered the weekend as the league leaders but suffered a setback with a defeat against the 1. FC Magdeburg U23 squad. The loss dropped them to second place with 30 points, now just one point ahead of the charging HFC.
Behind the primary trio, the field remains competitive. VSG Altglienicke sits in fourth with 27 points, while Carl Zeiss Jena and BFC Dynamo both remain in striking distance with 26 points each. With three matches remaining in the first half of the season, the race for the honorary title of “Autumn Champion” is wide open.
Chemnitzer FC appears to have the most favorable remaining schedule in the first half, facing Tasmania Berlin, Greifswald, and Luckenwalde. Rot-Weiß Erfurt faces a significant hurdle in the 17th matchday against Altglienicke, while Hallescher FC will have to navigate a difficult away fixture against a home-strong BFC Dynamo side.
