Giants Face Texans Without Tremaine Edmunds as Micah McFadden Steps In

The New York Giants will face the Houston Texans on Sunday without starting inside linebacker Tremaine Edmunds, who has been ruled out due to a shoulder injury. Team reports indicate the issue could sideline Edmunds for multiple weeks and potentially place him on injured reserve.

In Edmunds’ absence, fifth-year linebacker and former starter Micah McFadden is slated to take over the starting role. McFadden previously served as a full-time starter across the 2023 and 2024 seasons, but his momentum was halted in the opening game of last season when he sustained a foot injury that sidelined him for the remainder of the year.

Reflecting on his return to a prominent role, McFadden acknowledged the mental adjustment required after losing his starting status. Staying present and maintaining gratitude for his health after navigating the past six weeks of recovery have become central to his approach as he prepares for Sunday.

Questions also surround whether McFadden will wear the green dot helmet sticker to relay defensive calls from coordinator Dennard Wilson. McFadden noted that he has previous experience handling defensive communications and feels fully prepared if coaches call upon him to manage the unit’s playcalling on the field.

While the defense adjusts to Edmunds’ absence, the Giants received positive news on the offensive front. Starting offensive tackles Andrew Thomas, dealing with a groin issue, and Jermaine Eluemunor, managing a calf injury, are both expected to play against Houston. Backup tackle Marcus Mbow, who has been working through a knee injury, is also expected to be available.

In the secondary, cornerback Paulson Adebo has been designated to return and appears on track to be activated before kickoff. Officials expressed strong confidence in Adebo’s capabilities, describing him as a high-end cover corner who excels at tackling and brings significant determination to the field.

Adebo’s return comes at a critical juncture for the Giants’ defensive backfield, as starting cornerback Greg Newsome II remains in concussion protocol and has been ruled out for the contest. The absence of Newsome creates an immediate opportunity for Adebo to step straight into meaningful snaps against the Texans’ passing attack.
