Chicago Bears Tight End Cole Kmet Carted Off Late in Game Due to Leg Injury

Chicago Bears tight end Cole Kmet sustained a concerning leg injury late in the fourth quarter, forcing him to be carted off the field and unable to leave under his own power.
The incident occurred in the closing stages of the game as Kmet absorbed a hard hit from a defender immediately after making a catch. He remained down on the home sideline, prompting the Bears to quickly rule him out for the remainder of the contest. At the time of the injury, Chicago held a 27-21 lead. The team subsequently drove down the field to secure a 58-yard field goal from kicker Cairo Santos, marking a career-long kick for him.
While the team did not immediately release a formal medical update following the game, the visual of Kmet leaving on a cart generated significant concern among analysts and players. NFL injury analyst Jeff Mueller weighed in on social media regarding the mechanics of the collision, noting that the defender’s hit forced Kmet’s right knee into valgus with contact, raising immediate concern for potential anterior cruciate ligament and medial collateral ligament damage.
The emotional response on the field underscored the severity of the moment. Reporter David Haugh noted that both Bears teammates and opposing players displayed visible concern for the tight end. Among them was former Bears captain Kevin Byard, who left the Patriots huddle to approach the cart and offer well wishes to Kmet as he headed down the stadium tunnel.
Kmet has carved out a durable and productive professional career since entering the league. A former standout at Notre Dame, he capped off a strong three-year collegiate tenure with a productive junior season in 2019, recording 43 receptions for 515 yards and six touchdowns. Selected by Chicago in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft, Kmet has developed into a reliable offensive presence, appearing in 106 games with 94 starts while accumulating 295 receptions, 2,998 receiving yards, and 22 touchdowns.
