Capcom Pulls Street Fighter 5 Offline and Delists Game Over PHP Security Flaws

Capcom has temporarily pulled Street Fighter 5 from digital storefronts and turned off the fighting game’s online servers to address critical security vulnerabilities tied to the PHP programming language. The action follows a recent discovery by cybersecurity researchers and organizations that utilized artificial intelligence to uncover two major vulnerabilities within PHP, a foundational programming language that has powered web development for decades.

The widespread discovery led to temporary outages across numerous websites and digital services as administrators rushed to implement patches. While many platforms quickly resolved the issue, Capcom determined that the PlayStation 4 and PC versions of Street Fighter 5 remained potentially vulnerable, prompting an extensive emergency response.

The publisher first alerted players last week through a post on the official Street Fighter account on the social media platform X, followed by a formal notice on the game’s Steam page on Friday. Capcom confirmed that it was initiating emergency maintenance on Street Fighter 5 to implement necessary security enhancements related to PHP, forcing the immediate shutdown of all online features.

In an update posted to the official Street Fighter account, the company confirmed that the game remains offline and has been officially delisted from stores while technical teams work toward a permanent solution. The notice explained that content requiring online functionality is currently unavailable across both the PlayStation 4 and Steam editions of the title.

Despite the suspension of online services and digital sales, Capcom emphasized that offline content remains fully accessible to players who already own the game. The publisher noted that sales on both the PlayStation Store and Steam are being suspended in stages as the maintenance proceeds, offering sincere apologies to the player base for the disruption and asking for patience and understanding.

Capcom has not yet provided an estimated timeframe for when the emergency maintenance will conclude, nor has it announced a specific date for the restoration of online features or the return of Street Fighter 5 to digital storefronts.
