Archie Gray Fires Tottenham Ahead After Mateta Sees Red

Tottenham Hotspur seized control of their Premier League clash against Crystal Palace in North London after breaking the deadlock through Archie Gray following an eventful opening half-hour.
Roberto De Zerbi’s side entered the fixture seeking a third consecutive league victory to cement their recent resurgence, while the visitors arrived under mounting pressure. The match began with a poignant minute’s silence and the sounding of the Last Post to mark Remembrance Day.

The contest turned dramatically in the 11th minute. Micky van de Ven raced back to halt Jean-Philippe Mateta on a dangerous counter-attack, prompting a lunging challenge from the Palace forward that caught the defender’s heel. Referee Michael Oliver initially brandished a yellow card, but after consulting the pitchside monitor and reviewing the replay, the official upgraded the punishment to a straight red card, reducing the visitors to ten men.
Tottenham capitalized on their numerical advantage in the 24th minute. Mohammed Kudus tormented the Palace defense down the right flank before winning a corner. Kudus delivered an inviting cross into the penalty area, where Gray found himself completely unmarked to nod past goalkeeper Dean Henderson and give Spurs a 1-0 lead.

De Zerbi’s lineup featured Kinsky in goal, protected by a backline of Gray, van Hecke, van de Ven, and Robertson, with Fernandes and Sandro Tonali anchoring the midfield. Kudus, Omar Marmoush, and Mathys Tel operated behind lone striker Dominic Solanke. Pierre Sage’s visiting side lined up with Henderson behind a defensive trio of Richards, Disasi, and Canvot, while Mingueza, Adam Wharton, Daichi Kamada, and Tyrick Mitchell formed the midfield structure ahead of attackers McNeil and Pino.
Prior to the breakthrough, Palace had tested Kinsky when Kamada unleashed a sharp effort from the edge of the area in the ninth minute. However, the visitors struggled to contain Tottenham’s fluid attacking movement, with Tel and Kudus repeatedly probing down the flanks. Home supporters also paused during the opening phase to chant in appreciation of former striker Harry Kane following his recent Ballon d’Or success.
