Apple Issues iOS 27.2 Release Candidate as Public Launch Nears

Apple has issued the release candidate build 24B115 for iOS 27.2 to its Developer releases page, marking the final testing phase before a broader public rollout. Following multiple rounds of beta testing, this candidate build serves as the version that could transition directly to the general public if no critical bugs emerge during final evaluations. Apple has not yet published an exact date for the public release, though industry reporting indicates the final software package could arrive as early as next week.
The release candidate brings several notable updates across native Apple applications, including Messages, Apple TV, FaceTime, Home, Apple Podcasts, Games, and Apple Music. Among the prominent additions is the return of Messages Suggested Actions. This feature surfaces underneath relevant message threads to offer quick shortcuts for creating calendar events, setting reminders, or adding notes based on conversation content. First introduced during the summer beta cycle before being pulled prior to the initial public release, the tool now includes a dedicated settings menu allowing users to fine-tune or disable specific suggestion types.
Other application updates touch on media management and device control. The Apple TV app introduces a new profile-selection screen upon opening after an update, separating viewing history and recommendations among different household members. Apple Podcasts reorganizes its Up Next queue on the Home tab into two distinct sections: New Episodes for followed shows, and Continue Playing for unfinished audio. Group FaceTime calls now support Dual Capture, a function that streams both front and rear camera feeds simultaneously, extending capability from single-user modes to group interactions on iPhone 17 and newer models when the camera-flip button is pressed.
Smart home users with compatible HomeKit locks also gain two new automation choices. Lock After Closing secures a door a set time after it closes rather than after it unlocks, while Door Left Open sends notifications if a door remains open past a chosen duration. However, available documentation does not specify which smart lock models support these automations, leaving users to check individual manufacturer listings. In the Games app, the Home tab now highlights recently downloaded titles that have yet to be played, alongside reorganized achievement and leaderboard tracking. Apple Music receives a cosmetic update featuring a black-and-white app icon and blue highlights for active tabs.
Not all features tested during the beta cycle made it into the final release candidate build. The heavily discussed redesign of the Health app briefly appeared in early betas before Apple reverted to the previous interface starting with beta 4, pushing the overhaul to a later date. Meanwhile, forum discussions among early testers have highlighted a scattering of self-reported bugs and performance observations. One participant reported an issue with attention-aware Face ID on an iPhone 18 Pro Max and an iPad Pro M4 running the release candidate, noting that devices unlocked even when users were not looking at the screen. The same user observed identical behavior on the publicly available iOS 27.0.1, indicating the issue predates the current build. Other scattered forum posts noted that a Show Associated Content toggle under search settings occasionally reenables itself after being turned off, while another tester reported an improvement in excessive tab-reloading behavior in Safari.
Because release candidates can still harbor undiscovered bugs and lack official Apple change lists or security patch notes prior to a public launch, users weighing whether to install the pre-release software are advised to back up their devices and verify beta enrollment status. For most everyday users running an iPhone as a primary or work device, waiting for the official public rollout via the Software Update menu remains the standard recommendation.
