Nike Marks LeBron James Philadelphia Debut with Exclusive Sneaker Releases

The arrival of LeBron James in Philadelphia has sparked a major marketing and product blitz from Nike, as the sportswear giant integrates the basketball icon into the local landscape through high-profile sneaker releases and city-wide campaigns. The move coincides with James’ official debut for the 76ers, turning the city into a focal point for the brand’s latest basketball initiatives.

Central to the celebration is the release of the Air Force 1 ’01 “Philly,” a shoe designed specifically to honor the city’s identity and the team’s color palette. The low-top sneaker features a white leather base accented with blue on the toe box and side panels, complemented by a red Nike swoosh. The design is heavily localized, with the right shoe featuring “PHL” lettering outlined in blue and the left shoe bearing the “215” area code. The back heel displays “Phila” in a font mirroring the Sixers’ primary jerseys. Retailing for $140, a presale for the shoe was held on Thursday through the Nike SNKRS app and the local boutique Lapstone & Hammer, with shipping expected by February.

On the court, James marked his first game with the Sixers by debuting the Nike LeBron 24 “Philly” edition. The 24th signature shoe of his career features a specialized “KingKnit” material designed to resemble a mesh fishing net and an outsole embossed with a crown outline. For the debut, James wore a mismatched pair featuring a monochromatic blue shoe on the right foot and a monochromatic red shoe on the left. In a nod to his new franchise, Nike produced a strictly limited run of only 76 pairs, which were made available earlier this week at a Nike pop-up shop in the Fashion District.

Beyond footwear, Nike has deepened its local presence through the “Chosen 2One5” campaign. This effort includes a recently commissioned mural at Garage Fishtown and a new commercial highlighting James’ transition to the Philadelphia market.

The flurry of activity around James follows a series of high-profile sneaker developments for other members of the roster. Jaylen Brown recently collaborated with the streetwear brand A Bathing Ape for a limited-edition 7UICE x BAPE STA release. The shoe, which dropped online October 18, features a black leather upper with green accents near the heel, a reference to the colors of his former team, the Boston Celtics. Brown is also slated to release his “NOT from HERE” signature shoe under his 741 Performance brand in November.

Meanwhile, Tyrese Maxey recently launched the New Balance Maxey v1. To promote the new signature model, Maxey conducted a local tour of Philadelphia staples, making appearances at Foot Locker, Ishkabibble’s, and Faheem’s Hand of Precision. The collective activity underscores Philadelphia’s growing status as a central hub for signature basketball footwear and athlete-led branding.
