Lizzo Named Grand Marshal for 77th Annual Houston Thanksgiving Day Parade

HOUSTON — The city of Houston has announced that global superstar Lizzo will return to her roots this November to lead one of the region’s most celebrated holiday traditions. The Grammy-winning singer and flutist has been officially named the grand marshal for the 77th Annual H-E-B Thanksgiving Day Parade, an event that serves as the centerpiece of the city’s seasonal festivities.

The announcement was made during the Houston Mayor’s Holiday Celebration Lineup press conference, which detailed the events planned for the coming months. The parade is scheduled to step off at 9 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 26, traveling through the heart of downtown Houston. Spectators can expect a large-scale production featuring five marching bands, live musical entertainment, and a variety of elaborate floats and festive performances designed for a family audience.

For Lizzo, the role is a significant homecoming tied to her upbringing in the Alief area. Before her rise to international pop stardom, the artist was a student at Elsik High School in the Alief Independent School District. It was during her time at Elsik that she developed her musical foundation as a member of the Mighty Ram marching band, where she played the flute—an instrument that remains a defining element of her artistic identity.

In a tribute to her history with the local music program, the Elsik High School marching band will perform alongside Lizzo along the parade route. This collaboration offers a high-profile platform for the current students of the Mighty Ram band to showcase their talents alongside a high-profile alumna.

The H-E-B Thanksgiving Day Parade is a fixture of the Houston holiday experience, typically drawing thousands of residents and visitors to the downtown area. The 77th iteration of the event continues a legacy of celebrating local culture and talent while marking the start of the winter holiday season. Tickets for the 2026 event are currently on sale as the city prepares for one of its most attended annual public gatherings.

Organizers noted that the parade will maintain its traditional mix of high-energy performances and theatrical displays that have characterized the event for more than seven decades. Further details regarding the specific route and the full lineup of performers are expected to be released as the holiday approaches.
