Ja Morant Featured on Portland’s Historic White Stag Sign Ahead of Blazers Home Opener

Portland’s iconic downtown White Stag sign received a high-profile neon addition overnight Tuesday, featuring newly acquired All-Star point guard Ja Morant as the city prepares for the Trail Blazers’ home opener. Crews worked throughout Tuesday to install the new display, which was initially concealed beneath tarps before its official nighttime unveiling.

The updated downtown landmark now incorporates a neon depiction of Morant alongside the message “LOOK WHO’S UP.” The installation also features the Beaverton-based Nike Swoosh and Morant’s signature shoe logo, serving as a prominent promotional nod from the athletic apparel brand to mark the player’s regular-season debut in a Portland uniform.

According to a spokesperson, the display depicting Morant will remain active, showing him dunking on the sign until November 7. The activation coincides with the Trail Blazers’ opening matchup against the Phoenix Suns scheduled for Wednesday night at the Moda Center. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m., with broadcast coverage on KUNP (KATU 2.2), followed by the Rip City Wrap-Up.

The White Stag sign itself is a deeply rooted fixture on the Rose City skyline, owned and maintained by the City of Portland after it acquired the landmark more than a decade ago. While the downtown display regularly shifts its seasonal messaging—such as lighting up with its traditional red nose the day before Thanksgiving—this week’s sports-themed takeover marks a distinct promotional moment for the franchise and its newest star guard as the basketball season tips off.
