German Climber Dies Following Fall on Nepal’s Ama Dablam Mountain

A German climber has died following a fatal fall while descending from the summit of the Himalayan peak Ama Dablam in northeast Nepal, according to local logistics officials.

The climber had successfully reached the summit of the 6,814-meter (22,256-foot) mountain on Sunday. During his descent on Monday, he fell approximately 1,500 meters (4,920 feet), succumbing to the incident, said Gokul Thapa, head of Real Himalaya Pvt Ltd, the company that provided local logistics support.

A search team recovered the climber’s body on Monday, Thapa stated from Lukla, the primary gateway to the mountainous region. The remains were subsequently retrieved from the mountain and scheduled for transport via helicopter to a hospital in Kathmandu to undergo a post-mortem examination.

Ama Dablam is located in the Solukhumbu district, an area well-known to mountaineers and situated near Mount Everest, the world’s tallest peak. More than 300 mountaineers have secured climbing permits for Ama Dablam during the ongoing September-November autumn climbing season.

The fatality follows another recent mountaineering incident in the region. Last week, two Japanese climbers died on a different peak located in western Nepal. Earlier in the year, 10 climbers, including a notable Nepali-British mountaineer, also died on a mountain in Pakistan.
