Brazilian Actress and Singer Lua Blanco Dies at 39 Following Intestinal Cancer Diagnosis

Brazilian actress and singer Lua Blanco, widely recognized for her television work including the soap opera Rebelde and productions on TV Globo, has died at the age of 39. Her death on Sunday followed a diagnosis of intestinal cancer that had already reached a metastatic stage.

Blanco’s father, Billy Blanco Jr., shared a detailed and emotional account of her final months and the rapid progression of her illness. According to her family, the health crisis began in late July after Blanco experienced severe abdominal pain. Subsequent medical examinations revealed the advanced cancer. She underwent treatment at the Instituto Nacional de Câncer (INCA), where medical staff provided specialized care and gradually prepared the family for her declining prognosis.

During her three-week hospitalization, Blanco maintained a resolute and optimistic demeanor that left a profound impression on her visitors. Her father noted that despite the severity of her condition, she remained smiling, confident, and free of complaints, drawing strength from a deep faith that she shared openly with relatives, close friends, and her five siblings who visited her.

Blanco built a prominent career in Brazilian entertainment. Beyond her breakout role in the Record network’s telenovela Rebelde, she appeared in TV Globo programs such as Malhação and A Força do Querer. Her professional journey began years earlier after she studied literature at the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro (PUC) and steadily established herself in the artistic community.

Following the announcement of her death, figures from across the Brazilian entertainment industry paid tribute. Former partner and actor Arthur Aguiar expressed sorrow over her passing and noted a recent conversation they shared. Fans and long-standing colleagues also remembered her dedication to her craft and her respectful relationship with her supporters throughout her career.

Blanco passed away peacefully in the early hours of Sunday with her mother by her side.
